Traveling the North roads

House cleaned, laundry done, groceries bought, grass mowed, flowers watered. Pretty much back to the normal day to day life.

I have to say though we sure did enjoy the trip and seeing some of the beauty our State of Mich has to offer. The sunsets off Lake Superior were amazing. Our own Lake Michigan has great sunsets as well but this one seemed exceptional for some reason.

Porcupine Mountains was established to preserve the Midwest's largest stand of old-growth hardwood-hemlock forest. You'll find striking geologic formations, scenic overlooks, wildlife, waterfalls and alot of human history. Did you know that the Lake of the Clouds was not always called that, its original name was Carp lake but there have never been any Carp found in the lake so the name was changed to Lake of the Clouds, which seems more fitting. It is in the clouds and stunning.

We climbed this tower to see the overlook of the forest below, I love the high places, but the climb isn't always so fun in 80 degree weather.

We dropped down into Wisconsin to marvel at the rolling hills and farms that show the rich heritage of the "Dairy" state.

I kept saying all the farms looked so neat, with picturesque barns, fresh looking homes, always with flowers in the yards, and appeared to be well organized with no clutter of old junk cars or machinery sitting around.

The farmers seem to have an unusual way of planting
their crops too. It makes looking at the fields very
pleasurable. As you see in this picture they alternate
corn and soy beans, to make a maze of sorts.
We noticed this almost everywhere in Wis. maybe its a way to preserve the soil and not exhaust all the nutrients

Just look at the healthy field of soybeans, everything looked so green and vibrant.
Of course all of this was added bonus the real reason we went to Wisconsin was to visit the House on the Rocks., not just to look at farms.
I'm sure someone commented on my taking pictures of the crops as being just another "city slicker" let loose in the country.
The House on the Rocks is a must see if you ever
go to Wis. It was build by a man named Alex Jordan and he was either crazy or just a person whose imagination took flight. Its a one-of-a- kind adventure and treasure trove of some of the world's most unique architecture and eclectic collections filled with the exotic, the whimsical, and the unexpected. The infinity room was amazing and scary. It extends 218 feet into space, 156 feet above the valley floor so you are looking down on the tops of the trees. And it moves when alot of people are walking out onto it.
Of course our last places to visit was a popcorn shop that featured just about any kind of popcorn you can think of, we bought sour cream cheesy and Carmel corn both very good and we also brought home some of what Wisconsin is so well known for, cheese, what else with all those dairy farms and all them there cattle they have to make cheese. Sharp cheddar, Swiss, coby, and mild cheddar, all very good. The trip went well all except the drive through Chicago which was sort of unplanned or maybe not planned so well by us. We thought we would take the boat back across Lake Michigan cutting off travel time and missing the drive through Chicago. But we realized we were about 200 miles south of where the boat was and closer to home by driving and the stupid GPS, I've dubbed her "Wilma" took us directly through down town Chicago so it was bumper to bumper traffic on five or six lanes for several miles but we made it without any mishaps. That's what we get for not having an Illinois map with us. Stupid "Wilma"!!!!
God's nature is what attracts us the most and we love to see
the out of the way places. "Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, and His wonderful works to the children of men!" Psalm 107:8

So beautiful!
The farmers in Pennsylvania do the same type of planting.
Do you think Wilma and Alice are sisters?

I hear alot about those wilmas and Alices. We don't have one ourselves but we have friends that argue with their gps all the time. Too funny. Glad you had such a nice trip.

I agree about the House on the Rock! It's been years since we were there, but it IS a "must see".

Sorry about Chicago. One of our daughter and her family live almost downtown. There is SO much to do and see there though! It's NOT made for a "drive through".
