Halloween

I'm not much for celebrating this holiday, but at work some of the staff and the residents really get into it. We do have a bunch of fun loving people and these are just a few of the costumes that some worn at work today.
This lady is a hoot, she comes only once a year on Halloween, and the story she tells is so funny, she claims to be from California, & drives a Fred Flintstones car all the way from the hills in Ca. Her name is Onyna, she says her dress is her only good one she has and that it was purchased from Macy's. (I'm not so sure about that) anyway she stays in the character of this back hills woman for the whole day. Spinning the story about her life working at a mill with her brother Clem. She can't afford to get her teeth fixed but believes in colon cleansing for sure!!! According to her story she made the bracelet & necklace she is wearing from the saw mill she works at in Ca. The story goes on & on & I can't remember all the details but the residents sure get a laugh out of her antics all day.
The staff in the kitchen made these cute pumpkin cakes for all to enjoy at snack time this afternoon. We have some really creative people that do alot of extras in the kitchen to make meals enjoyable & fun.

We had little kindergarten kids all dressed up come through from a local school and several of the residents lined the halls to greet them with treats. It was like one big party for the staff & the faces of the old folks just beam when they see kids. Something about children always bring out the smiles, even on some of the residents that rarely speak or show emotion.
Just goes to show you God can use even this pagan holiday to bring joy into the lives of some who have so little.

It is nice that even though Halloween isn't the best holiday, it's still nice to have a day of fun, and I bet it's fun for the residents to see all the costumes and to have the kids there. And it's always good to have a reason to eat cake! :)

Hi Nancy! I'm finally getting around to checking out your work party. It looks like you had a great time! Those cakes are so cute. I bet the residents just loved all those little kids. I take my kids to an assisted living area and the residents and my kids both get a rewarding experience.
