Growing in the Faith

I Think I mentioned a while back that my small group Bible study is reading one of A.W. Tozers books " The knowledge of the Holy" I had a hard time getting into it at first. It seemed so above me, and I just don't think on the same level as Tozer, but the more we study and discuss the contents of the book it is becoming extremely clear that to think of an all knowing God in the reverence that He so deserves we do in fact need to think on some of the points brought out in this book.
He uses words like "Eternity", and expounds on that. Pointing out that it is a time- word that we need to use, but that has no bearing on God. Time marks the beginning of created existence, and because God never began to exist it can have no application to Him. Try to grasp this thought, that God appears at the beginning is not to difficult to comprehend, but that He appears at the beginning and end of time simultaneously is not so easy to wrap our minds around. I never really pondered that before.
Another word is "Infinitude", which of course means limitlessness. The thought being that could we conceive of His greatness He would be less than the human mind which could form the conception. God is greater than mind itself and His greatness cannot be conceived. Is that deep or what???
We use the word infinite incorrectly all the time, correctly the word can be used of no created thing, and of no one but God. This is so exciting that I have to continue with some of these thoughts. God's nature is infinite, everything that flows out of it is infinite also. God's gifts in nature have their limitations. They are finite because they have been created, but the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus is as limitless as God. How cool is that?????? Sin has its limits, God's grace has none...Wow!!!
Are you totally blown away yet?? Here is another word that I never gave a thought to, "Immutability." What can that even mean?? To be human we are changeable, we can be immature to mature, better to worse or the other way around, but God is immutable, He never differs from Himself, He is perfectly holy, He has never been less than holy. God differs from His creatures in being self-existent, self-sufficient, and eternal. In God no change is possible, in men change is impossible to escape.
What peace it brings to the Christian heart to realize that our Heavenly Father never differs from Himself. We don't have to concern ourselves about the virtues or attributes or character of God, they are always the same, always holy and pure. Some things the human mind will never understand no matter how we toss it around in our little minds. When we get to eternity it won't even matter so much but while here on earth it only deepens our understanding and concepts of who and what God is, to contemplate some of these things, and we are only in chapter 9.
I guess I'm really getting into this study and its bringing so many things about God to the forefront of my mind and helping me to get into the Word which is good.

Wow. I find that usually I just don't think about these things because my little mind just can't wrap around them! It is definitley some amazing stuff to think about. And after all the thoughts of how big and infinite and holy God is - we still get to realize that he loves us individually and cares about each of our lives. Wow!

What a great study - just reading the things you wrote here boggles my brain. It is so neat to think about these kinds of things though, because it reminds us how awesome our God is!

Sounds like this study is taking you to a new spiritual level. That's relationship; when you really know the person who you are in relation with.how can we have a relationship with God if we don't know him. not just about him, but really know Him, you go girl!! keep writing more:)

Thanks for visiting me over at my blog. The little one wearing the goggles was my daughter about 3 years ago. It's hard to believe she was so little.
