Slow cooking Thursday

I missed out on works or me Wednesday so I thought I better get on the stick & make a post for the slow cooker Thursday at least.

This is a great beef stew that can be done in a very slow conventional oven, at 275 degrees or a slow cooker. I must admit that I have always made it in the oven, because it is one of those comfort type foods that is usually made in cooler weather so getting the kitchen heated up was not an issue so, I can't be sure just how it will turn out in the slow cooker but I see no reason why it wouldn't be the same.

1 1/2 lbs beef stew meat

4 potatoes cubed

4 large carrots cut in 2 inch pieces

3/4 Cups water

3/4 Cups tomato juice or V/8 ( I prefer the V/8 juice)

1 package of Lipton onion soup mix

3 Tablespoons tapioca

1 Tablespoon dried sweet basil

Chopped celery leaves

Mix it all together in a bowl & put into the cooker on med. for 5-6 hours. I like to serve it with some crusty rolls & a fruit salad... If you want to see alot more recipes go over to, diary of a SAHM & find almost anything you might think of......Enjoy

This is a great recipe. I have it too, and have done it in the oven, but I'm sure it would be great in the slow cooker also!

That does look like a nice meal to have on a cool fall or winter day.

This beef stew recipe is slightly different than the recipe I make but sounds delicious. Yesterday the temp was 107 here so no need to heat up the kitchen.

that sounds really yummy!
my problem with these types of meals is leo's nausea - food smells can make his stomache roll! needless to say, we have lots of fast meals at our place!

This sounds like a great Fall recipe! Does the tapioca stay in little balls or do the balls cook down over the long cooking time? Thanks.
