THE SHOW MUST GO ON

2011 Coast Guard final few hours go down as possibly one of the soggiest.
We ventured down early in the day so we could get a parking spot, which was not much of an issue as not to many people had arrived yet. But as you can see many blankets are already laid out to mark saved spots for the fireworks this evening. That's been a traditional thing ever since I can remember. Any time after midnite on the day of the fireworks you are allowed to mark your spot with blankets or tape or any kind of item that will not harm the grass, and leave it there for the entire day.

We went to go look at the craft show that is set  up in the middle of town. It started to rain shortly after we got there but a little wet didn't seem to dampen the spirits of the crowd that was beginning to line the streets to watch the parade. Lots of umbrellas, plastic bags and rain coats and we commented on how many crazy people were out there getting drenched.

But then we were out there too so guess we were just as crazy as all the rest of the folks.
I wondered if the parade would be canceled but there is no time for a do over as the festival ends tomorrow so on with the show. I couldn't get to many shots cuz my camera was getting wet but here's one of the marching bands, fancy cars, clowns, Coast Guard men and women in full dress and lots of other fun floats made there way through down town Grand Haven.
In spite of the rain it looked like everyone was having a soggy good time, of course the sun did come out later and tonight there will be fireworks.Posted by Picasa

It's too bad it was so wet yesterday. However - I guess Grand Haven knows how to make the most of a bad situation!

This festival always brings out lots of people, rain or shine.
