We went to the Island

I had a three day weekend and we just had to take off on another little road trip. This time we ended up in Mackinaw City over night and the next day took the ferry across to mackinaw Island.
Its just one of the unique places in Michigan that attracts people from all walks of life. If your looking for bargins the shops are all having sales anywhere from 20% -50% off, of course prices are inflated to begin with but there are good sales if you look.
There are no cars or any type of motorized vehicle allowed so its either walk, ride a pedal bike or horse and buggy. I expecially like to hear the clop, clop sound of the horses as they plod through the streets delivering people to and from their hotels or to touring the Island. It does give you a feeling of going back in time.
We found most of the trees on our drive up past the peak color but on the Island the trees were just starting to change and the flowers were still in full bloom. Back at home most of the flowers are done for the season.
Any view of the Great lakes is always a pleasure to the eyes, in my opinion. The activity on the Island is still going strong but will soon be winding down. By the end of the month most of the business will have closed for the winter and soon only a remnant of people will stay. Winters can be pretty cold and brutal, so there are only a few hardy souls stay all winter.

That is so nice that you two could just get away for the weekend. I like it up there too.
Love your story and how it is up there.
Have a friend that has been working on the island during the summers.
