Happy Mothers day!!!

Proverbs 31:27 "She watches over the affairs of her the household and does not eat the bread of idleness".

I lost my mother in 2006 and she is still very much missed and especially on Mothers day the memory of her floods my inner being with so much of her that it is as if she is right next to me speaking in my ear. She was always home making herself busy with the chores of the house or making lunches, doing laundry the usual things that mom's do. We had a fairly large house with lots of rooms to clean and plenty of laundry with four other siblings to keep clothed. She helped my dad with his business, made appointments and kept the books, but she still found time to spend with each of us. She loved nature, simple things in life made her happy. Though money was not an issue she pinched the penny till it squeaked. I think some of that came from the era that she grew up in. You saved things because it might come in handy for something someday.

Her humor was unending, she loved anything in nature, from bugs to all kinds of animals, she allowed us kids to bring home stray dogs, cats, turtles, I even had a pet snake. She let us build forts under the dining room table or make tents under the picnic table outside and then help us make snacks and gather flash lights, blankets and stuff to spend the night in the back yard.
I was the oldest and I liked to rearrange the furniture in the living room, my dad never knew where his favorite chair might be found but she would smooth that over with him at least once a month so I didn't get yelled at. I never really told her that I appreciated the times she went to bat for me.
She was a gentle spirit with a quiet disposition, I don't ever remember her complaining about anything, though I'm sure she did. She was modest but could nurse a baby in front of my friends without them even knowing it. She baked cookies, pies and made meals effortlessly.
She had heart ache but managed to hold her head high, she lost three babies to miscarriages and when my little sister got polio she was the strongest person I ever knew with faith that sustained her.
Later in life she and dad would travel, something she loved especially the trips into Canada, being flown into remote places and camping in tents with only the supplies that you could take on a small plane. Fishing and exploring areas that very few men ever got to. Her sense of adventure never ended. She loved to swim and could float with no effort, in fact she couldn't sink, we would try to pull her down but she bobbed up just like a bobber. All of us got our love for the water from her and we all learned to swim at early ages.
Gardens grew with her tender loving care so we ate fresh vegetables and not just the ordinary ones, we had Jicama, Jerusalem artichokes, kohlrabi, and even fried dandelions, some of which my dad had a say in but she went along with his wishes.
Thunderstorms were exciting because of her, she instilled a sense of awe in place of fear.
The last few years of her life she suffered from Alzheimer's and her personality slowly ebbed away into nothingness, but the memory of who she was before Alzheimers lives on fresh in my mind forever the loving laughing lady who birth me will always be that one special person who helped to shape the person that I am.
