Progress in the making

I Took a bike ride to check on the progress of a bridge in my area that has been out the whole summer due to construction, or should I say reconstruction. It has been both a blessing & a curse to have it torn up, for one thing this is the way many of us travel to get to all of the local stores & the town I live near. It's the back way & all the locals use this road to stay away from the general traffic that flows through this tourist town in the summer. Having the bridge out has been a hassle because it has added several miles for us to go around the long way, but it has also been a blessing in another way because the traffic on my road has been greatly reduced. Making my road very quiet & more pleasant to walk or ride my bike on. Lately when I walk there are some days when not one car goes by.

I live on a dirt road & it behoves me why so many people want to travel down a narrow winding dusty road, of course the kids (young men mostly) like to go as fast as they can around the curves & often end up in the ditch or against a tree. Once we saw a bunch of boys trying to do donuts & flipped their truck. Fortunately no one was hurt & they were upset with the damage they caused. I think it was daddy's truck too!!! OOPS.....probably didn't do that again.

The last picture is of a bayou known as, Millhouse bayou & has been home to swans & blue heron, & other kinds of foul, one year we saw several bald eagles in the spring, that was a thrill, & the kids like to fish off the bridge so I hope when its redone that all of these wonders of nature will return to normal. That's what gets to me with progress, it becomes more concrete & less nature. How can that be called progress!?? I'll never figure that one out...

I thought I lived out in the country but the city keeps invading the country & gets closer & closer all the time.. we may have to move to the mountains someday....

First I have to tell you that you are not allowed to move to the mountains, because you would be too far away from me!
It is taking some time to get that bridge done isn't it? They will have to finish it soon, because construction season is coming to an end. I hope the wildlife returns too. It is amazing to be able to see things like bald eagles so close to home. We have seen them near our bayou too - maybe the same ones?

Those are some cool pictures. Hopefully it will look better once the equipment is out and things get back to normal. Although I agree - it's much nicer to walk without cars around. That's why I usually like to walk at the park instead of our street.
